Doin’ it Tough for Cystic Fibrosis with Tough Mudder

This September The Empire crew and some silly willing friends of the Empire will be running the course of Tough Mudder!
For those of you that don’t know, Tough Mudder is an 18-20km obstacle course designed to test physical strength and mental grit. Tough Mudder puts camaraderie over finisher rankings and is not a timed race but a team challenge that allows participants to experience exhilarating obstacles, oh and A LOT of mud! So why would we want to do this to our poor accountant physiques? Not only to push ourselves as a team but to raise money for a cause that we believe worthy of the 18km of pain – Cystic Fibrosis awareness.
Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is a genetic illness and people with CF have trouble breathing and getting nutrients from food. It affects a number of organs in the body, especially the lungs and pancreas where repeated infections and blockages can cause irreversible lung damage and even death.
The life expectancy of a person with CF is only 38, making it crucial for patients to get the essential services they need to ensure they are able to lead reasonably normal and productive lives. At present CF is the most common life threatening, recessive genetic condition affecting Australian children. More than a million people carry the CF gene (nationally that’s 1 in 25 Australians).
Cystic Fibrosis Queensland work tirelessly to fund scientists to find a cure for this genetic disease and this is where we need your help.
