At Empire Accountants, we’re proud to work alongside businesses that genuinely care about the outcomes they create for their clients; and Funded Finance is a perfect example of that.
We’re excited to introduce our latest Partner in Business, Alex Watson, founder of Funded Finance. Alex is someone who truly understands that great lending outcomes aren’t just about rates or approvals. They are about clarity, communication, and long‑term strategy. We sat down with Alex to learn more about his journey, his business, and what makes Funded Finance different.
Funded Finance is a mortgage broking firm built on the promise of delivering Australia’s Most Connected Home Loan Journey.
We specialise in residential, investment, and commercial property finance, and we’ve built our process around over 40 unique engagement points so clients always know what’s happening next.
Essentially, we help people get onto the property ladder — and then keep climbing it. Whether that’s a first home, an upgrade, an investment portfolio, or commercial property, our role is to support clients across their entire property and wealth journey.
Our ideal clients are busy professionals and business owners in their 30s and 40s who want to buy property with clarity and confidence.
They might be first home buyers, families upgrading, investors building portfolios, or business owners purchasing commercial property, SMSF property, or even a premises for their own business.
What they all have in common is the need for a trusted adviser — someone who can review their situation, clearly distil their options, and provide a one‑stop solution across residential, investment, commercial and SMSF lending.
I spent over a decade in banking with Westpac and CommBank before making the move into mortgage broking.
I initially joined another brokerage in a Head of Partnerships role, but after just nine months that opportunity ended and I found myself launching Funded Finance unexpectedly.
The timing couldn’t have been worse — it happened the day after returning from my 10th wedding anniversary. I walked away from all my referral partners, had 1.5‑year‑old twins at home, a mortgage, a car loan, and just $16,000 in the bank.
From there, I had to get very clear on what I needed to do. I set one goal — to fund $2 million a month — and I went back to basics by picking up the phone and calling everyone I knew. Not with a sales pitch, but with genuine excitement about building something new and a belief that I could deliver an outstanding experience.
Today, Funded Finance is about much more than proving I could build a business from scratch. It exists to stand in the gap between corporate greed and everyday Aussies who want to build a legacy and create a future for their families.
We’re not just about finding the best rate — we provide real, property‑based solutions.
Everything we do is built around Australia’s Most Connected Home Loan Journey, underpinned by our core values of Speed, Excellence and Communication.
It’s not just about getting a loan approved. It’s about giving clients confidence, clarity, and a long‑term partner who can support them at every stage of their financial journey.
Getting the right advice and support around accounting and cashflow has been critical.
There’s so much to learn as a business owner, and managing money effectively is an ongoing journey, one that evolves as your business grows. Having the right support around that makes a huge difference.
At Funded Finance, we believe great investment decisions aren’t made in isolation — they’re built on strategy.
Our Two Pillars Opportunity brings together borrowing capacity and equity into a single, actionable document that clearly shows the path forward.
For Empire’s community, I’m offering our Strategy Sessions for $249 (normally $500).

Empire has had a long-standing relationship with Rothgard Financial Partners, in fact, one that pre-dates Empire itself! Over many years of working alongside Gino and his team, we’ve seen first‑hand the quality of the relationships they build with their clients. We are excited to have them feature as our Partner in Business in this month's newsletter.
