Empire Accountants are pleased to introduce Rise Landscapes for our client feature this month.
Owner and operator Mark creates exceptional outdoor spaces for homes and businesses across Brisbane. From retaining walls and concrete paths to complete makeovers and backyard renovations. You can see some of the great work Rise Landscapes does here.
We sat down with Mark to learn more about his business, and how it all started!
Tell us about your business!
We are a landscaping business specialising in landscape construction, residential and small commercial jobs.
We offer complete Garden makeovers and create beautiful outdoor spaces for clients. Building retaining walls, concrete paths, pool surrounds and timber structures are some of the things we do. With a focus on retaining walls and concreting, we do a complete garden makeover, front and backyard renovations. Solving problems like drainage and erosion issues and challenges like that.
I personally enjoy working with clients to help bring their vision to life or solve problems they are experiencing.
How and when did you get started?
I had an interest in horticulture and gardening, so I took horticulture courses at school. After that I completed my landscape construction apprenticeship in Geelong 17 years ago. I started getting a lot of referrals to build people’s gardens, and decided to start a landscaping company.
I then moved to Brisbane and worked for local companies on some big commercial and civil sites for a few years. About 4 years ago I decided to start Rise Landscapes because I love it and it’s basically all I know!
What can our Brisbane readers buy from you?
Rise Landscapes really is a full-service company.
Aside from the services we offer to achieve full landscaping makeovers. I think it is the attitude towards the work we do. Like Empire, we enjoy working with our clients, bringing their vision to life through our quality, high-end work and customer service. I think that efficiency, and a high quality end product is really important to a lot of people – and that’s what we can offer!
When did you start using Empire for your business accounting and what differences have you noticed since working together?
I was on the search for a good accounting firm and was recommended to Empire Accountants from another construction business. They have been a great help keeping me up to date and organised. Our strategy sessions have helped a lot with the growth of the company.
I’m now a lot more organised with the accounting side of my business, and Laura’s been a good help with the business strategy and getting things implemented.
Even the little things like calendar management, all the reminders for my obligations – stuff like that just gives me peace of mind.
It is amazing knowing that every few months I have a health check meeting for my business, to reinforce or make adjustments to the strategies we have in place.
Starting a small business can be challenging in today’s market. What is one thing you feel was a challenge for you and how did you overcome that?
Our main challenge has been with labour and not being able to find employees. It can really hold up the growth of a business. However, it is starting to get better, and we have now hired a few new staff. The Goal is to build a good solid team to take on a range of new projects for our clients.
