The Empire Times Client Feature - Summer Daze Pools

Posted 8 May '17

Empire Accountants has had the pleasure of working alongside Steve and Anita from Summer Daze Pools, assisting them with their taxation needs. Summer Daze are based in North Brisbane, specialising in the design and construction of amazing pools! To check out some of their work visit the website here (*warning you will be wishing it was summer again).

We sat down with Anita and Steve for our client feature and this is what we learnt:

Q. Tell us about Summer Daze Pools. What does it do?

A. Summer Daze Pools specialise in the design and construction of concrete swimming pools and pool safety/fencing compliance. We are based in North Brisbane.

Q. How and when did Summer Daze Pools start?

A. July 1, 2010 – Steve has been building pools for some of the elite companies and thought he could offer a better service and product – so he started the business and never looked back.

Q. What makes your business different to other pool designers in the area?

A. We are a small company; Steve works on-site so everything runs smoothly, Anita works with the clients directly – answering questions and hand holding throughout the whole project. We also offer pool tours for prospective clients so they can meet previous clients and see their pool (for ideas with tile selection, interiors, surrounds etc).

Q. Starting a small business can be challenging in today’s market. What is one thing you feel was a challenge for you and how did you overcome that?

A. Steve knew how to build a pool (he has been building pools for close to 21 years) but he didn’t know how to run a business. It was proving difficult to juggle everything – Steve hired a business coach which helped him put systems in place to run a business. Best piece of advice.

Q. When did you start using Empire Accountants and what difference have you noticed since working together?

A. Anita had been with Empire for several years before joining Steve in his company 2016. She saw there were a couple of areas that could be improved with different advice and set up an appointment with Steve and the team. The rest is history.

Q. If you were to recommend The Empire to a friend, what would you say?

A. “You’ve really got to have a chat with Beth and Luke. They’ve made our business function not only as a business, but for our family. They go out of their way to be answerable to us whenever we need advice or guidance and have done absolutely everything we’ve needed for us. You literally cannot fault them”

Q. Do you have any advice for anyone wanting to start a business in Brisbane?

A. Do it. But make sure you surround yourself with people who know how to do THEIR job properly – accountant, lawyer, business coach and family. Everyone works as a team and helps each other ‘til the end.
