Shopfront Grant Available in Brisbane - Empire Announcement

The Brisbane City Council has released a Suburban Shopfront Improvement Grant to assist local businesses. The Council’s grant program has allocated $50,000 per annum over four years to assist eligible businesses in refreshing the façade of their shop, with the goal of improving customer appeal.

What are the specifics?

> this is a matched grant, meaning the council will not cover the entire cost of the improvements.
> funding will cover up to 50% of cost to visual improvements of exterior, to a maximum of $5000 (excluding GST).
> funding is limited and not every eligible applicant will be approved, or receive the full amount available.

What improvements are applicable?

Any street-level improvements to your shopfront such as:

> repairs or replacement of awnings, windows, doors, lighting, painting, landscaping etc.
> decorative materials or signs

When does the grant open and end?

You can apply now! Applications for the 20/21 financial year close 11.59pm, Wednesday the 23rd of December 2020.

What are the eligibility requirements?

> only suburban shopfronts in Brisbane (businesses in Brisbane’s Central Business District are ineligible)
> property owners or tenants with the property owner’s written consent
> where there is a tenant, they cannot be a franchise and they must be a small business (less than 20 employees including casuals)
> must not have overdue council grant acquittals or outstanding council debts
> property cannot be a part of a shopping centre complex
> property cannot be owned or managed by Brisbane Council, Brisbane Council subsidiary companies or a government agency
> staff cannot be employees of Brisbane Council
> property cannot be in the Central Business District
